Born in 1989, Singapore, JONATHAN OH began his musical journey during his pre-teen years as a Piano and Electone player. Playing for Yamaha Music School, he saw himself involved in various prominent functions such as the Annual Yamaha Concert in 2003 where he conducted a 9-piece electone ensmble. He took part in the Yamaha Electone Festival 2005 in the Junior Solo and Ensemble Category where he clinched 2 out of the 4 given awards and was Champion in the Ensemble Category.
Jonathan started playing the Bassoon during his secondary school days at Hai Sing Catholic. Under the bassoon tutelage of Mr Liu Chang from the Singapore Symphony Orchestra(SSO) and Band Directorship of Mdm Tan Soh Hwa and Mr Chua Tiong Hong.
A Member of Hai Sing Catholic Concert Band, the band received Gold Awards in the Singapore Youth Festival(SYF-2003 & 2005) and International Band Competition held in Genting Highlands, Malaysia.
From the age of 16, he has been a member of West Winds, a community band among the 2 selected local bands who performed at the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles(WASBE) 12th International Conference held at the Esplanade, Singapore.
In 2007, Jonathan entered the Nanyang Polytechnic Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Mr Luk Hoi Yui and later by led by Mr Leonard Tan.
Currently, Jonathan is in the Singapore Armed Forces Central Band (SAFBAND) as a Bassoonist.
He is also the President and Conductor of the Hai Sing Catholic Alumni Band.
Jonathan as thus far coached student bassoonists, woodwind players and bands from secondary schools. He has also guest played in various bands including Mus'Art Wind Orchestra.
A keen interest in composing, he has written a few pieces for ensembles and hopes to study Musicology and Conducting in Europe.
